Event Summary
How do you develop a successful disaster resilience app? And how do we maximize the opportunities to work with and for the public sector to ensure buy-in?
In recent years numerous public and private sector partnerships with the tech community have spurred civic engagement and collaborative software or hardware tool development to improve communities’ resilience to natural disasters. These initiatives often use open data and open source software to collect, analyze, share, and improve risk data for better decision-making.
The Asia Disaster Resilience Forum 2015 aims to bring together representatives from the ICT communities, private and public sector to discuss experiences and best practices developing civic apps for community-based disaster resilience in the Asia region.
Code for Resilience is a multi-year project of the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) in collaboration with wide ranging global partners from the public, private, community, and civic tech field. The program aims to build communities’ resilience to natural disasters through innovative uses of information and communication technologies.
In 2014, over 1,000 developers participated in 11 Code for Resilience events in eight countries including Bangladesh, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
