Description
History is a good guide, but when it comes to risk it’s only half of the story. According to the UN, 68% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050 and nearly 65% of the space necessary for this growth hasn’t been developed yet. As populations and wealth continue to accumulate in the most disaster prone areas, cities must work together to develop more cohesively with an eye on the risks of tomorrow. The Rockefeller Foundation has recently pioneered the 100 Resilient Cities Initiative (100RC). 100RC is identifying 100 cities across the globe of various sizes, demographics, cultures and risks, naming “Chief Resilience Officers” in each city that will work together to apply the best knowledge and tools. In one centralized platform, 100RC is bringing together the best engineering, architecture, (re)insurance, infrastructure, finance, data analytics firms, and beyond to help these cities realize their plans to build more resilient cities in the face of growing shocks and stresses. In this session, we will discuss the 100RC, the collaboration between the cities, and the tools to identify city exposure, analyzing various ways to reduce the risk and lessons learned.
