The University of Cambridge will be hosting a workshop on the theme of Disaster Resilient Supply Chain Operations in South Asia (DROPS) from 28 November – 2 December 2016.
The one-week workshop – to be held in Cambridge – is intended to gather people involved in disaster preparedness, mitigation and relief with expertise in aspects of supply chain operations and resilience. The workshop will be part presentation, part discussion and the aims of the workshop are to:
(i) Identify factors which drive the need for a resilience perspective on DROPS.
(ii) Capture key aspects of DROPS requiring some degree of resilience through spatial analyses (mapping)
(iii) Determine barriers to effective resilience
(iv) Capture case examples of effective/ineffective resilience in disasters
We are seeking speakers to kick off the workshop with experiences in resilience requirements for key disasters – whether in the preparedness phase, mitigation or relief. We would be very grateful if you would consider giving one of these talks or recommend someone who may be interested in participating in the project? Our expectation is that the talk would be for 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for discussions. This would help in setting the scene for the rest of the workshop, perhaps addressing questions such as:
– What does resilience mean in the context of the disaster relief supply chain operations you work on?
– What approaches are currently taken for mapping and embedding resilience in supply chain operations?
– How do you get buy-in from funders to including resilience needs in the planning processes?
– What are the barriers to considering and embedding resilience today?
Is this something you would be happy to do or forward to someone who may be interested in taking part? If so, please get in touch with Dr Tariq Masood tm487@cam.ac.uk for further details.
With many thanks
