Venue: Salon de Maestros
Video viewing access to people even in previously remote areas continues to increase. Video production barriers for those wishing to document and share good risk management practices continue to decline. But this combination has not necessarily resulted in optimal usage of video for risk communication to improve local-level decision-making. Information overload of too many videos and sources can result in people having difficulty finding appropriate videos. Many accessible videos are focused more on upstream advocacy for funding by promoting the approach and actions of the filming organization than on downstream communication of good practices for identifying and addressing risks in a location-appropriate manner. And many videos attempting to address such practices seem inappropriate for such reasons as: (1) not enabling viewers to efficiently determine whether the video addresses problems similar enough to those currently or potentially adversely affecting their household or community; (2) not adequately describing steps needed to implement potential good practice options; and (3) not providing results, lessons learned, and links to more information that can guide and encourage viewer modification and replication.
This workshop aims to help participants to overcome these problems in their efforts to evaluate and use existing videos or to create and use new videos to communicate with stakeholders about local-level salient risks and replicable implementation of risk management good practices approaches to address them. After initial explication of a framework and video examples of what constitutes effective video for these purposes, it will be structured to engage workshop participants in activities of group work toward developing effective video ideas and then discussion and compilation of lessons learned from these activities and their prior experience and insights that can be carried forward for ongoing sharing among interested workshop participants of exemplary videos and related insights.
