Satellite Earth Observation in Support of Disaster Risk Management

Event Summary

Description

Date: Monday, May 14, 10:45am – 1:15pm

Venue: Salon de Actos

The event aims to show the value that EO data, information products and decision support tools can add to DRM by improving readiness and actions through all phases of disaster management.

The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) has fostered a series of initiatives to support DRM more efficiently, with a focus on risk reduction, by optimizing and better coordinating satellite earth observations and access to data by users and value-added providers.

The session will present success stories and lessons learned from CEOS projects on floods, seismic risk, volcanoes, landslides, and disaster recovery, as well as highlighting the work of the Geohazard Supersites and Natural Laboratories and GEODARMA initiative. The session will provide a forum for discussion between satellite data providers and the international disaster risk reduction (DRR) community on how to fast track successful satellite data uptake within that community.
