Organization: World Bank

Session Leads: Pablo Suarez & Rashmin Gunasekera, World Bank

Time: 13:30-17:00

Abstract: In this  intensely interactive session, you will confront the individual and collective challenges of balancing investments in disaster risk management and financing in the Caribbean. Participants will be organized in teams that have to cover basic needs and pursue climate-smart growth – all while confronting the threat of seeing their development gains wiped out by extreme events like hurricanes. With limited information, you will have to make investment decisions that will have consequences: should you maximize growth potential?  Is there an insurance product worth purchasing?  How about a disaster fund? Are there innovative risk financing tools that can help?  How to assess and balance choices?   There will be winners and losers – and insights for decisions in the real world.
