The University of Manchester has an opportunity for a Research Associate to work as part of a team on a project funded within Alliance Manchester Business School in collaboration with the cities of Salford (UK), Viggiano (Italy) and Amadora (Portugal) and UNISDR.
The position involves contributing to the research on a project called “City to city local level peer review on Disaster Risk Reduction”. The project develops a peer review tool for cities to improve DRR. The role is to support the design, development, implementation and evaluation of the impact evaluation methodology. This impact evaluation methodology will assess the impact of the peer review tool on the cities.
Contract Type
This is a 24 month, fixed-term position that ends on 31 December 2018.
Who should apply?
The position is open to those who have completed, or are about to complete, a PhD or have extensive training in qualitative research methods. The successful candidate will be joining the Division of Management Science and Marketing and will be involved with the Humanitarian and Conflict Research Institute (HCRI).
Responsibilities
The role includes the following responsibilities:
- Conducting a literature review on city resilience peer review frameworks;
- Designing an impact evaluation methodology to evaluate the impact of the peer review tool on cities;
- Applying the impact evaluation methodology to evaluate the application of the peer review tool to Viggiano, Salford and Amadora; and
- Producing research publications for high-quality academic journals.
Qualifications
Candidates should have experience of qualitative data collection and analysis as well as report writing. Candidates should have an interest in research in disaster management. Well-developed team working, communication, interpersonal skills and a proven track record of delivery are essential.
