Please note UR2016 will be held in two different venues:
Focus Days (Monday, May 16 – the morning of Wednesday, May 18) – NH Laguna Palace, Viale Ancona, 2, 30172 Venice Mestre. Location here.
Main Conference (the afternoon of Wednesday, May 18 – Friday, May 20) – Arsenale, Sestiere Castello, 7016, 30122 Venezia. Location here. Note: If you Google Map “Arsenale”, it will direct you to a different part of Arsenale than where UR will be. Please use this link to find the exact location.
There are three areas of Venice where UR2016 are recommended to stay: 1. Lido; 2. old Venice; 3. Mestre. Please see the map below for where the three areas and two venues are located:
Lido
Lido is a long skinny island on the other side of old Venice. Hotels are cheaper than on old Venice; they are around the same cost as on Mestre. Lido is closer to get to the Arsenale (around 20 minutes by public water bus), however, will take a long time to get to the Focus Days in Mestre. We recommend that if you are only attending the main conference and would like reasonably priced accommodation, you stay in Lido.
To get to Arsenale from Lido take the public water bus (vaporetto) 5.1 from the Lido stop to Arsenale Nord / Bacini. This is two stops away and takes 17 minutes. The vaporetto leaves on the hour, 20, 40 minutes beginning at 6:00 until 20:00. Water buses run in the evening back to Lido until late in the evening.

Old Venice
Old Venice is what people think of when they hear “Venice”: no cars, gondolas, and charming Italian houses. The venue for the main conference, Arsenale, is on old Venice (location). If you want the atmosphere of Venice, this is the place for you. However, it is the most expensive of the three options. Expect to walk a lot and get lost or become familiar with the public water transport boat (the vaporetto).

Mestre
Mestre is where the Focus Days will be held at NH Laguna Palace (location). The benefits of Mestre is that it is much cheaper than old Venice, and the Focus Days are held there. However, it will take around 1 hour minimum to arrive at Arsenale for the main conference days.
To get to the Arsenale, where the main conference is located, requires two steps:
1. Get from Mestre to old Venice
There are two options to get to old Venice:
1. Take a taxi to Piazzale Roma bus station. A taxi from Mestre costs €10-18 and takes around 10 minutes.
2. Take a train from the Venezia Mestre train station to Santa Lucia train station. The train costs €1.25 and takes 10 minutes. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes from Mestre to Santa Lucia.
2. Get from Piazzale Roma or Santa Lucia train station to the Arsenale
There are two modes of transportation to get to Arsenale:
1. Take a water taxi from Piazzale Roma or Santa Lucia station. Water taxis are very expensive. A water taxi will cost approximately €120.
2. Take a public water boat (the vaporetto). There are two boat lines that run to Arsenale from Piazzale Roms or Santa Lucia:
From Ple Roma (bus terminal) to Arsenale Nord
Option 1: Public Boat 4.2 from Ple Roma, Parisi Stop E, getting off at Arsenale Nord / Bacini
6.20 am, 6.40 am, 7.00 am
Then every hour on the minutes 14, 34, 54 till 7.24pm
Please consider that the ride will take 50 minutes.
Option 2: Public Boat 5.2 from Ple Roma, Sant’Andrea Stop B, getting off at Arsenale Nord / Bacini
At 6.24 am, 6.44 am, 7.09 am, 7.49 am, 8.09 am, 8.29 am
Please consider that the ride will take 35 minutes.
From Santa Lucia Train Station to Arsenale Nord
Option 1: Public Boat 4.2 from Ferrovia (in front of Santa Lucia) Train Station, getting off at Arsenale Nord / Bacini
7.09 am to 7.49 pm
Then every hour on the minutes 14, 34, 54 till 7.24pm
Please consider that the ride will take 1 hour.
Option 2: Public Boat 5.2 from Ferrovia (in front of Santa Lucia) Train Station, getting off at Arsenale Nord / Bacini
6.30 am, 6.50 am, 7.15 am, 7.55 am, 8.15 am, 8.35 am
Please consider that the ride will take 30 minutes.
