Description
Global challenges are best met united; but how? Despite the well-known damage that earthquakes can cause, risk assessment tools and data are out of reach in many areas of the world. The global collaborative GEM effort was created in order to bridge this critical gap and hereby support increased resilience to earthquakes worldwide. GEM aims to be an open effort, a forum for worldwide collaboration on seismic risk. Hundreds of individuals and organisations are already working together to develop global datasets, models, calculation software and other tools. Once a first version of the risk assessment platform that will integrate all this becomes available, collaboration on earthquake risk can be taken to the next level.
This group is about discussing how we can best work together and make use of existing data and knowledge, to assess risk anywhere in the world; for example..
- What are best practices in collaboration on seismic hazard and risk assessment, in Africa and elsewhere?
- How can scientists/experts be motivated to openly discuss findings, methods and approaches so it benefits the community at large?
- How can we mobilise organisations and individuals to share and contribute (local) data to the global databases that are being developed?
We look forward to you sharing the collaboration initiatives you know about, and hear your opinions about the above questions and other issues you bring up!
